An underutilized tool to improve trauma care

By | November 27, 2024

Becker’s Hospital Review covered a recent paper in JAMA Surgery, which demonstrated underutilization of teletrauma services in the US. Using National ED Inventory (NEDI)-USA survey data, the paper showed only 8% of all US EDs used teletrauma services in 2020. First author Dr. Mohammad Zain Hashmi, from the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB), highlights the potential for teletrauma to “help save lives and improve care coordination for injured patients located far away from major trauma centers.” UAB and EMNet are currently conducting a national survey of teletrauma use to learn more about the landscape of teletrauma.
