The Human Epidemiology and Response to SARS-CoV-2 (HEROS) study was initiated in Spring 2020 during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. The main objectives were to help determine the rate of SARS-CoV-2 infection in children and their family members, and to determine what percentage of infected children have symptoms. In addition, the HEROS study examined whether rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection differ between children who have asthma or other allergic conditions versus those who do not.
MARC-35 and MARC-43 participants in the greater Boston area were invited to participate in the HEROS study, with >70 families enrolled.
