Abstracts Available for Manuscript Preparation
Since the network began in 1996, the Steering Committee has repeatedly encouraged investigators to publish manuscripts using network data. The EMNet Steering Committee and Coordinating Center provide free data management, statistical support, scientific input, and editorial advice. As demonstrated on the Publications page, dozens of investigators have taken advantage of this unique opportunity. Unfortunately, most investigators have not -- nor have many designed multicenter studies that take advantage of the network and Coordinating Center. The Steering Committee will continue to promote these important opportunities. We are committed to help you to reach your career goals.
Along those lines, please continue to submit secondary analysis proposals if you would like to perform entirely new analyses using existing data.
Others may prefer a more developed path. Please see the Publications page for a list of abstracts that are available for manuscript preparation. Available topics are shown using the link: "available" (which goes to this explanatory page). For each abstract, we are looking for highly motivated investigator to serve as first-author of the associated manuscript -- i.e., to review prepared materials (manuscript shell, written methods & results sections, data tables, figures), to suggest additional analyses (as needed), to revise materials to emphasize specific ideas, and then to write the introduction & discussion sections. We expect the entire process (from initial conversations to manuscript submission) to take a maximum of 3 months: 1 month for the investigator to get familiar with the abstract and for EMNet biostatistician to run additional analyses, and then 1-2 months to complete the manuscript. In our experience, first-authors should expect to write at least 2-3 drafts before the manuscript will be considered ready for submission.
(Note: We also have identified a few projects that were never presented at scientific meetings but for which drafts manuscripts were developed. These rough drafts require revision and the 1st author has requested co-author assistance to publish his/her manuscript.)
We believe that it is critical to disseminate the results of our collaborative projects. Of course, all authors must meet standard authorship criteria; "ghost writing" and "honorary" authorship will not be tolerated. If you are interested in preparing a manuscript based on one of the abstracts below, please contact Dr. Carlos Camargo at emnet@partners.org. We will develop a signed agreement, assign a "mentor" from the Steering Committee, and get started. We hope to hear from you soon!
