EMNet Privacy Policy

The Emergency Medicine Network (EMNet) would like to protect the privacy of its members and online visitors. You may visit the EMNet website without disclosing personally identifiable information. We do not collect such information unless it is publicly available or you choose to submit it to us. The first step in joining EMNet is the completion of an investigator form. With this, we will record basic information about you and your institution (e.g., names, contact information) and information about your particular field of research interest/expertise. Your information will become part of the EMNet database, which plays a critical role in running our international research network. We also do occasional surveys and compile site forms for all studies. We use this information to update the EMNet database and in data analysis for the specific studies. If you would like to review, correct, or change any information that you have supplied to our website, you may do so by contacting us at emnet@partners.org.

Our Commitment to Data Security To protect your information and ensure its accuracy, we utilize appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative security procedures to safeguard the information we collect. You should understand, however, that electronic transmissions via the Internet are not necessarily secure from interception and so we cannot guarantee the security or confidentiality of such transmissions. The web server where EMNet and REMI exist collects and saves the default information customarily logged by World Wide Web server software. Our logs contain the following information for each request: date and time, originating IP address and domain name (the unique address assigned to your internet service provider's computer that connects to the Internet), object requested, and completion status of the request. We use these logs to help improve our service by evaluating the "traffic" to our site in terms of number of unique visitors, level of demand, most popular page requests, and types of errors. These logs may be kept for an indefinite amount of time, used at any time and in any way necessary to prevent security breaches and to ensure the integrity of the data on our servers. Please note that we do not use "cookies", which are small files stored on your computer's hard drive that are used to track personal information.

Third Party Release Protection Except as provided herein, EMNet and REMI will not sell to any third party your name, address, e-mail address, or any other personal information, unless you provide your informed consent, except to the extent necessary to comply with applicable laws, police investigations, or in legal proceedings where such information is relevant. EMNet and REMI allow access to database information by third parties providing technical services, such as e-mail and website maintenance. In those instances, the third party is bound by these terms and has agreed to hold this information in confidence. Your informed consent shall be in the form of an “opt in” or similar policy. EMNet and REMI also provide, upon request, the names, degrees, cities and states of members with a given research interest to people who query the REMI website and request this information. Occasionally we provide summary data about sites, such as the approximate number of asthma patients seen at a site per day, based on our past experience of the site.

Contact Information If you have any questions or comments about our privacy policies or practices, please call us at 617-726-5276 or email us at emnet@partners.org so we can address them.
